The Turner Residence is a meticulously considered waterfront home that exemplifies contemporary building design on the Sunshine Coast. Conceived as a complete knockdown rebuild, the project was guided by the clients’ desire to retain the existing pool while establishing a stronger visual and physical connection to the water. The design responds directly to its setting, maximising canal views while delivering a refined sequence of living spaces that seamlessly integrate indoors and outdoors.

The elongated site, narrowing toward the canal, posed a significant planning challenge. The solution emerged through an innovative “L”-shaped configuration that capitalises on northern orientation, enhances passive design outcomes, and ensures uninterrupted views from the main living areas and master suite. Expansive glazing reinforces this connection to place, enabling spaces to adapt seasonally while framing key sightlines to the waterfront.

A carefully tiered landscape design resolves the relationship between the existing pool and adjacent entertaining areas, creating both visual cohesion and pedestrian accessibility.

Inside, a suspended concrete slab finished with a smooth render to the underside introduces a strikingly curved ceiling, described by the clients as “soft clouds within the living spaces.” This gesture begins at the entry and flows throughout the heart of the home, offering a sense of calm and continuity. Warm materials, controlled detailing, and understated finishes elevate the interiors, crafting a luxurious yet welcoming environment.

From the street, the home presents a modest, almost reticent façade, offering only glimpses of what lies within. Once entered, the home unfolds with measured drama—culminating in expansive views of the canal.
